In his most recent personal project, Jordan fuses his years of graphic design experience, with his new role as an illustrator. “With the Olympics on TV it was the perfect knock-on-the-head for how I was going to do it!” explains Jordan.

A Northerner residing in East London, Jordan Robertson takes short-lived moments from ordinary scenes, deconstructing them into graphic, textural takes on the everyday. After earning his stripes as a designer at world renowned studio DesignBridge, Jordan has now taken his passion for illustration full time with joining Futures at Jelly.

“I wanted to utilise the Olympic logo as my consistent graphic element, and then use my illustrations to support that and communicate the different events with colour and personality to bring out the joy of the games.

“Once I had my characters invented I wanted to bring them to life authentically, and my old college friend Karim is a great photographer located in Japan so it was a perfect chance to work with someone I was familiar with. I’ve always admired a silent narrative running through his work, so when I began drawing my elements into his photographs I partly felt he had already guided them in some sort of way and I was just revealing what was behind the curtain, it was really quick and inspiring to do!

“All I hope is that people enjoy seeing the illustrations but also the graphic side of it still communicates successfully and all the events and stories are clear. A big 6 digit Olympic commission is also fully welcomed.”
